Ruby Larsen, 89, Columbia Heights
Ruby Larsen, 89, of Columbia Heights and formerly of Paynesville and Palm Springs, Calif., died on Thursday, May 28.

Funeral services were held on Monday, June 1, at First Lutheran Church of Columbia Heights. Burial was in Nordland Lutheran Church cemetery in rural Paynesville.

Ruby and her husband, Oliver, shared 68 years of marriage.

Ruby is survived by her children, Karen (Robert) Dove, Oliver Jr. (Marilyn), Virginia (Tony) Stumpf, Allen (Kathy), William, and Anne (Vince) Ryan; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; siblings, Walter Andrews, Eleanor Fortun, and Delma Malins; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver.


Richard Groth, 66, Safety Harbor, Fla.
Richard H. Groth, 66, died on Monday, May 25, in Safety Harbor, Fla.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 27, at 11 a.m., at Bassett Town Hall in Brimson, Minn.

Richard Groth was born on June 9, 1942, to Herbert and Rosamond Groth in Albert Lea. He graduated from Paynesville High School in 1960.

He married Judith Dalthorp on July 20, 1962.

Richard is survived by his wife, Judith (Judy); children, DeAnn (Al) Sorenson of St. Michael, Denise (Mike) Matthews of Urbandale, Iowa, and David (Shannon) Groth of Tarpen Springs, Fla.; four grandchildren; and sisters, Margaret Groth of Port Richey, Fla., and Ruthann Kyrola of Makinen, Minn.


Evelyn Hendrickson Dunton
Evelyn (Lynn) Hendrickson Dunton, 81, of Fullerton, Calif., died on Saturday, May 9, in Fullerton.

Evelyn Hendrickson Dunton was born on March 24, 1928, to Pauline (Polly) and Wilfred Hendrickson in Union Grove Township.

She graduated from Paynesville High School in 1946. She graduated from St. Cloud Teachers College in 1948 and from California State University in Fullerton with a bachelor of arts degree in art education in 1963.

Lynn taught at District 19 school in Meeker County, at the Sacajawea and Jason Lee elementary schools in Richland, Wash., and various art courses in adult art education at Fullerton Junior College.

Lynn is survived by her husband, Bill; children, Bill, Mike, and Kristin; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty Crusoe of Eden Valley and Annette Warwick of Brentwood, Calif.; brother, Douglas Hendrickson of Paynesville; nieces and nephews; grandnieces and nephews; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, David and Bobby; brother, Wilfred; and sister, Carol.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in her name to the donor's favorite charity is preferred.


Gertrude Schutz, 93, Eden Valley
Gertrude Schutz, 93, of Eden Valley died on Sunday, May 17, at St. Benedict's Senior Community in St. Cloud.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, May 20, at Assumption Catholic Church in Eden Valley. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Gertrude V. Schutz was born on April 11, 1916, to Jacob and Mary (Braegelmann) Kron on a farm near Richmond.

She married Andrew Schutz on May 30, 1949, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Richmond.

Gertrude and Andrew farmed for 29 years. They then moved to Eden Valley, where they were employed by Assumption Parish, doing janitorial work for 17 years. Their union lasted until Andrew's death on Oct. 5, 1996.

Gertrude moved to Benedict Homes in St. Cloud in 2005 and then to St. Benedict's Center in 2008.

Gertrude is survived by her children, Laura (Ed) Hill of Cambridge, Ruth Schutz of St. Cloud, Jerry (Deb) Schutz of Richmond, David (Margie) Schutz of Paynesville, and Jane Brookstein of Washington, DC; brother, Eugene Kron of Richmond; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Andrew; sisters, Elizabeth Kron, Helen Winkels, Rose Blonigen, and Agnes Schutz; and brothers, Nick, Claude, Leo, and Othmar Kron.


Arthur Ley, 87, Roscoe
Arthur Ley, 87, of Roscoe died on Saturday, May 16, at the Koronis Manor in Paynesville.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 20, at 11 a.m., at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Roscoe. Burial will be in the St. Agnes Parish Cemetery in Roscoe.

A visitation will be held after 4 p.m. on Tuesday and from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday morning at the Wenner Funeral Home in Richmond.

Art Ley was born on April 27, 1922, to John and Zitta (Zaczkowski) Ley in Roscoe.

He married Lucille Schmitt on Jan. 16, 1945, in St. Benedict's Church in Avon. The couple shared 64 years of marriage.

He is survived by his wife, Lucille; children, Jo Ann (Richard) Stang of St. Augusta, LeRoy (Sandy) Ley of Roscoe, Duane "Mickey" of Cold Spring, and Joyce (Alvin) Olmscheid of Roscoe; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Lucetta Meyers and Gisele Thole; and brothers, Anthony and Cyril.

Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.


Herbert Golnitz, 94, New London
Herbert Roy Golnitz, 94, of New London and formerly of Hawick, died on Friday, May 15, at GlenOaks Care Center in New London.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 19, at Hawick United Methodist Church. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery in Raymond.

Herbert Roy Golnitz was born on June 14, 1914, to Wilhelm and Carolina (Miller) Golnitz in Afton Township in Iowa. He attended school in Brook Township and farmed with his father on the family farm.

Herbert was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Afton Township, Iowa.

He married Dorothy Hansenwinkel on June 18, 1944. The couple continued to farm in Afton Township and were blessed with three children: Virgil, Charlotte, and Sandra.

In 1947, they moved to a farm near Priam, Minn., and farmed until 1966. Herbert also worked at the Willmar State Hospital for 15 years.

In 1969, he began working for Star Machine in Minneapolis.

After Dorothy's death on Sept. 7, 1970, Herbert continued to work in Minneapolis.

He married Phyllis Rhuby on March 19, 1971, in Hanover, Minn. The couple lived in Rockford.

Herbert retired in 1977.

In 1980, they moved to Hawick, where they lived for 17 years and then moved into New London in 2007.

Herbert is survived by his wife, Phyllis of New London; daughter, Char (Jim) Gatewood of Princeton; step-children, Ramona (Fred) Evanski of Buda, Texas, Larry (Marie) Rhuby of Brainerd, and Linda Rhuby of Corcoron; a step-daughter-in-law; a son-in-law; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Herbert was preceded in death by his first wife; parents; son, Virgil; daughter, Sandra; a great-granddaughter; two sisters; and stepson, Randy.
