Marge Niess, 87, Waite Park
Marge Niess, 87, of Waite Park died on Monday, July 28.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, July 31, at Salem Lutheran Church in St. Cloud. Burial was in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Rice.

Marge Niess was born in Frazee, Minn., to Julius and Gertrude (Munder) Riebe. She attended Frazee High School.

She married George D. Niess on Dec. 15, 1940, in Detroit Lakes. This union lasted until Georgešs death on Oct. 14, 1999.

She is survived by her children, Larry (significant other Rayna) of Sartell, Diane (Chuck) Katzke of Brooklyn Park, and Denny (fiance Susan Bucko) of Rice; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and siblings, Grace Blaine, Rod Riebe, Linda Peterson, and Luverne Bergren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George and siblings, Gerald, Helen Jenson, and Jimmy.

Memorials are preferred.


David Miller, 85, Grove City
David Miller, 85, of rural Grove City, died on Monday, July 28, at his home.

Funeral services were held on Friday, Aug. 1, at Paynesville Evangelical Free Church. Burial was at Burr Oak Cemetery in rural Grove City.

David M. Miller was born on Feb. 25, 1923, to Menno I. and Susan (Schlabach) Miller on the family farm in rural Kokomo, Ind.

He accepted Christ as his savior in his teen years and was baptized in the Old Order Amish Church.

In 1946, he was united in marriage to Susana Herschberger. Thirteen children were born to this union.They shared 62 years of marriage.

David moved his family to their present home in rural Grove City in 1962, where they became faithful members of Believer Fellowship Mennonite. David remained a member until the time of his death.

He is survived by his wife, Susana; children, Neoma (Jerry) of Eden Valley, Moses (Mary) of Crossville, Tenn., Levi (Sara) of Bloomfield, Ind., Thomas of Grove City, Homer (Mary Ann) of Millersburg, Ohio, Sara of Litchfield, Anna (Marcus) Yoder of Grove City, Jesse of Grove City, Nancy (Steve) Stoll of Oden, Ind., David Jr. (Ester) of Lexington Ind., Earl (Patricia) of Cross Hill, S.C., Glen (Laura) of Mechanicsburg, Ohio, and Mary (Tim) Edmonson of Annandale; 40 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; brothers, Levi of Kalona, Iowa, and Moses of Buffalo, Mo.; and sister, Sara of Kalona, Iowa.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Menno I. and Susan Miller; sister, Elva; brother, Ivan; and two grandsons.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.


Dolores Martin, 87, New London
Dolores Martin, 87, of New London died on Monday, July 21, at Glen Oaks Care Center in New London.

Funeral services were held on Friday, July 25, at Glen Oaks Care Center in New London. Burial was in Lebanon Cemetery.

Dolores Jean Johnson was born on Nov. 28, 1920, to Peter G. and Annie M. (Ziehl) Johnson in New London.

She grew up in New London. She started kindergarten at age four and graduated from New London High School in 1937 at age 16.

She attended Minnesota School of Business accelerated program and graduated in 1938. She then began work at the Kandiyohi Electric Co-op, her first job and the company's first office secretary.

On Sept. 15, 1946, she was united in marriage to Elmo Shelstad. Together, they sang and played music on the KWLM Radio.

In 1953, Dolores was united in marriage to Odell Martin. Together, they started their own accounting service.

Due to failing health, Dolores entered the Glen Oaks Care Center in 1973. She kept busy, typing the activity calendars and welcoming new residents.

She is survived by three sisters, Margaret Lundquist and Lucille Seasedt of Paynesville and Maxine Meyers of Redwood Falls and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a younger brother.


Marion Eisel, 77, Paynesvile
Marion Jean Eisel, 77, of Paynesville and formerly of Lake Crystal, died on Monday, July 14, at the St. Cloud Hospital.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, July 17, at the First Methodist Church in Lake Crystal. A private family burial was in Lake Crystal Cemetery.

Marion Eisel was born on Nov. 24, 1930, to Martin J. and Gladys (Finch) Austin in Brainerd. She graduated from Brainerd High School in 1947.

Marion was united in marriage to Raymond Eisel on Nov. 27, 1950, in Brainerd.

Over the years, she worked as a grocery clerk, a homemaker for her family, at Shari Candies, and as a waitress.

Marion retired from Crysteel Manufacturing of Lake Crysal in 1992, where she had been the company's first female welder.

She moved to Paynesville in 1992.

Marion is survived by her four daughters, Janice (Richard) Leyendecker of Paynesville, Kathleen (Larry) Knapper of Tacoma, Wash., Donna (John) Engles of rural Lake Crystal, and Marlene Eisel (Jerry Roth) of Lake Crystal; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four brothers, Marvin (Marge) Austin of Hoyt Lakes, Harvey (Ruth Ann) Austin of Bargaresville, Ind., John (Sue) Austin of Pillager, and Peter Austin of Washburn, Wis.; one sister, Ruth (Len) Muckey of Northfield; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond; and two sons, Tom and Mike.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the donor's choice.


Barbara Johnson, 77, Paynesville
Barbara Johnson, 77, of Paynesville died on Tuesday, July 8, at her home resulting from pancreatic cancer.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 12, at Paynesville Lutheran Church. Burial was in Old Eden Lake Cemetery in rural Eden Valley.

Barbara Jean (Coulter) Johnson was born on Feb. 22, 1931, to John and Blanche (Mills) Coulter on the family farm north of Eden Valley. She attended country school through fifth grade and continued her education at Eden Valley Public Schools, graduating with the Class of 1948.

She married Robert Dean Johnson of Hector on Nov. 10, 1951. They made their home in Hector for 34 years. They moved to Lake Koronis near Paynesville in June 1985, and in July 2007, they moved to their present home in Paynesville. They are the parents of three children.

Barbara was a baptized member of the Eden Valley Church of God.

She is survived by her husband, Bob; children, Brad of Sartell, Jennifer (John) Nordberg of Brooklyn Center, and Rodd (Pam) of Chaska; four grandchildren; brother, Jim Coulter of Isanti; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Virginia Albright and Vivian Coulter (in infancy); and brother, Jerry Coulter.


Terry Hacker, 64, Paynesville
Terry Hacker, 64, of Paynesville died on Sunday, July 6, at the St. Cloud Hospital.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 15, at Paynesville Lutheran Church. Burial will be held at a later date.

Terry Hacker was born on Aug. 4, 1943, in Bloomington, Ind., to William and Mary (Langley) Hacker. He grew up in Bloomington with his mother and stepfather, John Allgood.

Terry was a United States Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War.

He was employed by the Los Angeles Times for 41 years as a journeyman compositor.

Terry retired in August 2005 and moved to Paynesville.

He married Jayne (Anderson) Roos on Dec. 29, 2007.

He is survived by his wife, Jayne; three daughters, Kimberly Sanchez, Lori Holloman, and Jessica Harrison; stepchildren, Heather, Eric, and Robert Roos; seven grandchildren; sisters, Linda Thomas and Ellen Thompson; brother, Virgil Hacker, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Terry Hacker; and brothers, Edward Allgood, Johnny Allgood, and Daniel Allgood.


Jacob Meeker, 22, Valley Springs, S.D.
Jacob Meeker, 22, of Valley Springs, S.D., died on Monday, July 7, as a result of injuries sustained in an auto accident near Valley Springs.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, July 10, at Hilltop United Methodist Church in Sioux Falls, S.D. Burial was in Pleasant View Cemetery in Valley Springs.

Jacob Robert "Jake" Meeker was born on March 28, 1986, to Robert and Tami (Heitke) Meeker in Casper, Wyo. As an infant, he moved with his family to Valley Springs, S.D., and grew up there.

Jake graduated from Brandon Valley High School in 2004. He was a proud member of the Brandon Valley Marching Lynx.

Prior to graduation, he began work at Brandon True Value Hardware and was currently employed there.

He is survived by his parents, Robert and Tami Meeker of Valley Springs; sister, Jill Van Voorst of Valley Springs; a niece and nephew; grandparents, Dale and Fran Meeker of Eldora, Iowa, and Marge and Jim Hartmann of Paynesville; many aunts, uncles, and cousins; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Jake was preceded in death by his grandfather, James Heitke.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Brandon Valley High School Marching Lynx.


Amanda Blonigen, 75, St. Martin
Amanda Blonigen, 75, of St. Martin died on Saturday, July 5, at the Melrose Hospital.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 8, at St. Martin Catholic Church. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Amanda Blonigen was born on Sept. 6, 1932, to Gregor and Cecilia (Behnen) Wieber in Farming.

She married Christopher Blonigen on June 23, 1953, in St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Farming.

Amanda was a farm housewife and raised 11 children. She sewed most of the children's clothes. In her later years, she sewed pot holders.

She is survived by her husband, Christopher; children, Roger (Sharon), Reuben, Roman (Mary), Marvin, John (Renee), Leon (Marie), Vernon (Sherri), Melvin, Rosie (Roger) Walsh, Lora (Wendell) Larson, and Janette (Jim) Niklaus; 16 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and siblings, Lawrence Wieber, Richard Wieber, and Mary Jo Wieber.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter-in-law.


Martin Karsch, 84, St. Martin
Martin A. Karsch, 84, of St. Martin died on Tuesday, July 1, at Paynesville Area Hospital.

Funeral services were held on Monday, July 7, at St. Martin Catholic Church. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Martin Karsch was born on Nov. 24, 1923, in St. Martin to Henry and Elizabeth (Hilsgen) Karsch. He grew up in St. Martin, and he attended Paynesville High School for two years. He graduated from Cold Spring High School.

He married Viola Hilsgen on June 6, 1946, at St. John Cantius Catholic Church in St. Cloud.

He worked at the St. Martin Creamery for 34 years, the St. Cloud School District 742 for one year, and Cold Spring Brewery for 14 years.

Martin is survived by his wife, Viola of St. Martin; son, Patrick (Vaneesa) of Paynesville; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Wanda; a grandson; and sisters Ann Haas and Mary Mueller.


Elmer Arceneau, 72, St. Martin
Elmer Arceneau, 72, of St. Martin died on Tuesday, July 1, at the St. Cloud Hospital.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 5, at the St. Martin Catholic Church. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Elmer was born on Nov. 18, 1935, to John and Theresa (Blonigen) Arceneau in St. Martin.

He married Lucille Dirkes on Sept. 5, 1960, at Seven Dolors Church in Albany. Elmer loved and cherished his family.

He served in the United States Army from 1957-59 in Germany and Lebanon. Elmer and Lucille farmed north of St. Martin.

He is survived by his wife, Lucille; children, Mary (Fred) Overman, Doris (Melvin) Schlangen, Alice (Alvin) Schlangen, Jeffrey (Sheela), Judy (Ron) Harley, Dennis (Diane), Brian, Glen (Lori), Kenny, Linda (Dale) Schroeder, Daniel, James (Lori), and Neil (Angela); 23 grandchildren; brother, Bernard; sisters, Margaret Hellmann and Anna Mae Schneider; and sisters-and brother-in-laws.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter; brothers, Alois, Norbert, Edwin, and Clarence; and sisters, Hildegard Lemke, Jenny Blommel, Dorothy Wenker, Betty Herzog, and Della Feldewerd.

Memorials are preferred.


James Buermann, 57, St. Cloud
James Buermann, 57, of St. Cloud died on Wednesday, July 2, at his home.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 8, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Paynesville. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

James F. Buermann was born on Aug. 2, 1950, to Robert and Dorothy (Eickhoff) Buermann in St. Cloud.

He worked at Burlington Northern Railroad in St. Cloud for many years as well as at Landy Packing and in bridge construction.

James is survived by his parents, Robert and Dorothy Buermann of Paynesville, siblings, Mary Jane Lahr of Paynesville, Carol Buermann of Sauk Centre, Gerald of Paynesville, Jeff of Paynesville, and Rich of Paynesville; special friend, Jenny Tritz of St. Cloud; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends.


George Ruprecht, 85, Eden Valley
George Ruprecht, 85, of Eden Valley died on Friday, July 4, at Assumption Nursing Home in Cold Spring.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 8, at Assumption Catholic Church in Eden Valley. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

George Ruprecht was born on April 3, 1923, to Jacob and Marie (Nistler) Ruprecht in Richmond.

He married Angela Dehn on June 27, 1946, in Rogers. Their union lasted until her death on April 1, 1992.

He then married Mary Dombrovski on Sept. 16, 1995, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in St. Cloud.

George lived in Eden Valley most all of his life and was a farmer for 20 years. He also worked at Cold Spring Granite Company for 15 years, retiring in 1988.

He is survived by his wife, Mary of Cold Spring; children, Doug of Pine City, Laureen (Ken) Schindele of Cold Spring, Michael (Mary) of Cambridge, Diane (Dick) Doll of Willmar, Bruce (Marlene) of Grove City, and Janell (Gary) Sommers of Spicer; siblings, Robert of Eden Valley, Herbert of Elk River, Leonard of Coon Rapids, and Marie Moss of Otsego; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first-wife, Angela; son, Allan; brother, David; and a grandson.
