Shirley Jensen, 80, Paynesville
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at Paynesville Lutheran Church in Paynesville, Minn., for Shirley Ardell Jensen, 80, of Paynesville. She died at her home in Paynesville on Saturday, April 25. Pastor Paul Shumaker will officiate. Inurnment will be at the Grace Lutheran (West) Cemetery at Belgrade, Minn. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at Paynesville Lutheran Church. Services are with the Daniel-Anderson Funeral Home in Paynesville. Shirley was born on Sept. 16, 1945, the daughter of Glenn and Gertrude (Nohre) Peterson at Thief River Falls, Minn. She was baptized at Nazareth Lutheran Church at Holt, Minn., confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church at Erskine, Minn., and graduated from Erskine High School in 1963. She was united in marriage to Keith Clementson on Oct. 12, 1963. This union was blessed with four daughters. She was later united in marriage to Henry (Woots) Jensen on Dec. 12, 1977. This union added five bonus children. She graduated from the College of Medical Technology in 1964, attended Willmar Vocational Technical College and graduated as an LPN in 1985. She worked at Glenwood Retirement Home, Belgrade Nursing Home, and the Good Samaritan (later named Washburne Court). She retired in 2007. She went on two mission trips to Honduras, enjoyed sewing, quilting, reading, rubber stamping, and spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Shirley enjoyed traveling adventures to Norway, Scotland, England, New York City, Alaska, and Mexico. Shirley is survived by three daughters, Susanne (Rick) Torgerson, Dawn (Randy) Larson, and Amy (Kimba) Coleman; five step-children, Cindy (LeRoy) Theis, Candy (David) Bevis, Mike (Jane) Jensen, Nancy (Mark) Lensing, and Todd (Beverly) Jensen; 24 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren; sister Sheila (Chet) Etzler; sister-in-law Loey Maroschek; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and many friends In addition to her parents; she was preceded in death by her husband Henry (Woots) Jensen; daughter Heidi; sister and brother-in-law Sandy and Al Nordheim; brother Keith Peterson; grandsons Jacob Larson and Aaron Theis; nephew Rick Nordheim; and in-laws Lawrence and Maxine Jensen, Jerry and Janice Rapp, and Wayne Maroschek. A sincere thank you is extended to Centra Care Hospice and the staff at Koronis Place.


Jim Loomis, 99, Paynesville

James "Jim" Loomis, 99, of Paynesville died on Monday, April 13, at his home in Paynesville. His funeral service was held on Friday, April 17, at Paynesville Lutheran Church. Visitation was held on Thursday, April 16, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Paynesville, as well as one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. The funeral was live-streamed by Paynesville Lutheran Church at www.paynesvillelutheran.org. Arrangements were with the Johnson Funeral Home in Paynesville. James Barney Loomis was born on Feb. 22, 1927, to Barney and Eleonora (Bauch) Loomis. He grew up in Madelia, Minn., where he graduated from Madelia High School. He went on to enroll at Macalester College. Jim attended classes for a year before answering the call to serve his country during World War II and enlisted in the United States Navy, where he proudly served in the Pacific Theater. He then returned to Macalester and earned his bachelor degree in education. On Aug. 8, 1953, he married Better Gerber in Norcross, Minn., beginning a lifelong partnership built on love and commitment. The couple fulfilled their dream of living on Lake Koronis when they purchased the Koronis Lodge and surrounding property in 1959. Jim spent the rest of his life on the shore of Lake Koronis, spending his final days next to Betty with his beloved lake in view. Jim devoted 36 years to Paynesville Public Schools, where he made a lasting impact as a teacher, coach, and athletic administrator. During his career, he continued his education, earning his master's degree from St. Cloud State University. In 2001 he was inducted into the Minnesota Athletic Director's Hall of Fame. He was a member of the Paynesville American Legion Post #271, Paynesville Lions, and Paynesville Lutheran Church. Jim was known for his outgoing personality - he truly enjoyed visiting others and never missed an opportunity for conversation and connection. Above all, Jim was a devoted family man. He took great pride in being a father and grandfather, and his family was the center of his life. Jim is survived by his wife, Betty Loomis; children, Sara (Bruce) Turrell of Paynesville, Tom (Michele) Loomis of Denton, Texas, John (Barbara) Loomis of Cape Charles, Va., Robert (Kenny Wong) Loomis of Seattle, Wash., Mary (Jerry) Scott of Grand Haven, Mich., and Michael Loomis of Paynesville; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Ruth Taylor.
