The girls met contestants from all over the state and put their fans through some tense moments during the two days. With only four practices, two with coaches Andrea Sigstad and Melissa Orbeck, they came out of seeding rounds with wins against Fairfax, Ada, Pierz, and Sleepy Eye, and only two losses to Marshall and Wabasha.
Their team work took them to the Silver Medal bracket, the second toughest bracket in the tournament where they tasted disappointment in the first round, due to a loss to Ortonville. Going into the consolation bracket against the Rockford R-Crew, the girls were determined, and came out with the win.
The two-week-old, four-practice, seven-girl team stayed to play for the consolation championship in the final round of the 1997 Star of the North Volleyball Tournament. The girls came out losers in the match, but winners in the eyes of their parents and fans.
