In the first quarter Paynesville only scored five points and things were looking very ugly for the Bulldogs.
In the second quarter Paynesville guard Luc Trees came alive and hit two three-pointers in a row giving new life to the Bulldogs.
At halftime Paynesville was only down by one point.
In the third quarter the Bulldogs played the Jaguars evenly with both teams scoring 11. However, Paynesville was still down by one.
In the fourth quarter one of BBE’s star players was called for his fifth foul and thus was fouled out of the game.
In the closing minutes Paynesville got called for three questionable traveling violations. Plus, the Bulldogs were behind and needed to foul the Jaguars to even have a chance at getting the ball back.
With about 15 seconds left BBE got called for a controversial traveling violation. It gave Paynesville the ball, with a chance at a win because at this time the game was tied.
The ball was inbounded to point guard Brent Heinen, who drove the seam in the zone defense and shot a floating layup. He missed the shot and Josh Jones tried at a tip and missed. Jones grabbed his own board and made a little bunny shot to put the mighty Bulldogs up by two points.
The Jaguars tried to come down the court and score with about five seconds left but couldn’t get the job done.
