The Bulldogs had five nominees for all-conference. Tim Knapp and Noah Bruntlett received all-conference honors. Dustin Looman, David Hemmesch and Seth Elmhorst were named honorable mention to the West Central Conference North.
Knapp was a big part of the Bulldogs defense which only gave up 972 yards rushing in nine games. He also had five quarterback sacks. Bruntlett was the Bulldogs second leading tackler and rusher. He recorded 42 tackles and 481 yards rushing.
Elmhorst recorded 111 carries this season for 578 net yards and had 19 tackles.
Hemmesch recorded 38 tackles, carried the ball 29 times for 65 yards, completed 48 of 122 passes for 660 yards. He kicked 29 punts for 920 yards, his longest being 67 yards.
Looman recorded 38 tackles, had two kickoffs for 83 yards, the longest being 45 yards.
Captains for the 1998 Paynesville football team are seniors Dustin Looman and Tyler Wuertz; and juniors Jeff Voss and Josh Roemeling.
As a team, the Bulldogs recorded 349 yards rushing attempts compared to 318 for their opponents. In yards gained, Bulldogs recorded 1,596 yards gained rushing and 666 yards passing.
The team recorded 98 first downs compared to 104 for their opponents. The Bulldogs also had 51 penalties totaling 330 yards while their opponents recorded 54 penalties for 439 yards. Paynesville committed 22 turnovers: 13 fumbles and nine interceptions.
