Pirates shut out Regal

Paynesville vs Regal Brad Deyak pitched a one-hit shutout for the Pirates against Regal on Sunday, July 24, as Paynesville defeated Regal 3-0, eliminating Regal from the playoffs. Deyak struck out ten, and walked two, allowing only three Regal batters to reach the bases.

Aaron Drew had the lone hit for Regal, a bloop single, just out of the infield.

Deyak, Chris Stanley, and Steve Barten had RBI singles for Paynesville.

Paynesville plays New London Saturday, July 27, in New London at 1:30. The winner of that game will advance in the playoffs to play Norway Lake-Sunburg. The loser of that game will be eliminated from the playoffs.

Roscoe vs Richmond The Roscoe Rangers defeated the Richmond Royals 2-1 on Sunday, July 21. This evens up the Stearns County League playoff series at 1-1 and forces a third game.

Roscoe scored both of their runs in the third inning. R.J. Leyendecker started off the third with a single. While Leyendecker attempted to steal second base, the Royals' catcher made a poor throw that skipped into center field and Leyendecker advanced to third base and eventually scored.

Also in the third, Brent Heinen reached on a single. After stealing second base, Heinen was driven in by a Tony Orbeck single.

Richmond scored their lone run in the fourth inning. The Royals had the bases loaded with one out when pitcher Greg Heinen hit a batter, allowing a run to score. The next batter hit a weak ground ball short of third base resulting in a double play and getting Roscoe out of the jam.

Greg Heinen went the distance for the Rangers, allowing six hits while striking out six.

The third and deciding game against Richmond is scheduled for Wednesday, July 24, at 8 p.m. in Cold Spring.
