The city of Paynesville and Alice Schreifels, a former city secretary, settled an age discrimination lawsuit this week.

Terms of the settlement were not disclosed under an agreement approved by both parties of the lawsuit.

Schreifels filed the complaint against the city with the Minnesota Department of Human Rights on Feb. 29, 1996. She alleged discrimination based on age. She was employed for six months with the city.

The settlement was reached after negotiations between the Department of Human Rights and the League of Minnesota Cities’ Insurance Trust which represented the city.
