Speech team places second at Sauk

The speech team from Paynesville Area High School placed second at a meet at Sauk Centre on Saturday.

Advancing to the final round were ninth grader Courtney Colbert, ninth grader Amanda Kern, ninth grader Caitlin Lien, junior Peter Schreifels, junior Jenn Terres, and junior Sami Tierney.

Also earning team points were senior Troy Gerding, sophomore Lisa Lenzmeier, and ninth grader Lindsey Pelton.

The team also placed third, out of 28 schools, at a meet at Sauk Centre on Saturday, March 8. Little Falls was first, and St. Cloud Tech was second.

Junior Callie Frieler took third in storytelling and earned a medal. Schreifels also competed in the final round and earned honorable mention in prose.

On Saturday, March 1, the speech team competed at a meet at St. Cloud State University.

Earning medals were: Kern (fifth in extemporaneous reading), Lien (seventh in informative speech), and junior Melissa Andrie (eighth in discussion).

Receiving honorable mention awards were Colbert in poetry, Pelton in humorous, Tierney in creative expression, and Schreifels in prose.
