Roman C. Spanier, 85, of St. Joseph, died on Wednesday, May 23, at his home, surrounded by family. Mass of Christian Burial was on Saturday, May 26, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in St. Joseph. Entombment was in the Parish Mausoleum. Roman was born on Dec. 28, 1921, in Farming to Mathias and Frances (Schmitz) Spanier. Survivors include his wife, Rose; children, Karen (Ray) Schindler of Sartell, Neil (Diane) Spanier of St. Joseph, Betty (Duane) Leither of Spicer, Terry (Kim) Spanier of Poplarville Miss., Judy (Roger Weischalla) Knettel of Sauk Rapids, Pennie (Chris) Field of Cold Spring, Pam (Jeff) Yurczyk of Sartell, and Patty (Neil) Loso of St. Joseph; brother, Orville (Jeanette) Spanier of Farming; sisters, Dolores Klein of St. Cloud, Viola (Elmer Schwinghammer) Backes of Waite Park, and Dorothy (Wally) Zumwalde of Richmond; a former daughter-in-law; 25 grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren.
