A lot of activity has occurred in the past month and a half. Here are a few updates:

In early December, we were informed that Stearns County had again ranked us their number two project for 2003, T-21 funds. Todd County's request for a Todd-Stearns connection became their number one request. I asked to make a presentation before the board and Commissioner Don Otte helped make that happen.

I was joined by Jeff Thompson, Paynesville mayor; Don Piestch, Paynesville Township chairman; Johnnie Olson, Trail Committee member; and Lance Bernard, our resident intern. We made our best argument and after much discussion, it was decided that all applications would receive a county support resolution and another discussion would be held on January 14th.

I personally met with commissioners Don Otte, Leigh Lenzmeier and Vince Schaefer. After long and persuasive arguments, the three of them agreed to support us as their number one project.

On the 14th, that's exactly what happened. We are now their number one priority. The T-21 application has been submitted with most of the suggested changes I received from the committee.

Within the next month to month and a half, we will know where we stand for possible future funding. We've never been this far before, however we're a long way from home. The township and the city have confirmed to me their financial commitment to this project, especially regarding the 20% match and unfunded project costs.
