July 13, 2002

A Lake Koronis Recreational Trail meeting was conducted at 8:00 a.m. on July 13, 2002 at the Paynesville Township Hall. Members present included: Jeff Bertram, Dwaine Lindberg, Johnnie Olson, Tara Schmidt, Karlin Jacoby, Lonnie Gleitz, Paul Osborne, Pat Meagher, Mary Hahn, Todd Burlingame, Randy Thoreson, Ed Mc Intee, Mayor Jeff Thompson, Phyllis Conlin and Lance Bernard. Members excused: Commissioner Don Otte.

Jeff Bertram opened the meeting with old business:

Bonding Proposals: Bill was vetoed. We will keep trying next year for Phase III and the T-21 Grant for Phase II.

Committee membership changes, Tanya Whitcomb is off the committee and Mayor Jeff Thompson is on. The Rice Lake Association will be naming a member of their group to the committee as well.

The meeting then turned to new business.

Jeff explained plans for Old Lake Road Dedication. This is to begin at 11:00 am today.

Jeff introduced Lance Bernard-our CAP intern for the next three months.

The group was informed that the lines are painted and all signage is complete on Old Lake Road. The rock and plaque have been secured.

Jeff read to the group a letter he received from Central MN Community Foundation. At the present time, no parties have come forward to contribute to the trail from that group. We will be included in their next mailing as well to again solicitate support.

We received a letter of support from Congressman Mark Kennedy.

There was discussion of possible trail location and necessary easements that would be needed. We will continue to work on those easements.

Jeff informed the group of the most recent KLA Newsletter and an overview of their annual meeting. He felt the majority of the group was very positive and supportive of the trail.

Jeff and Dwaine notified the group of recent contacts with Gary Swenson a former member of our committee. He greets the group and wants us to know he is very pleased with the progress of the trail.

Jeff informed the group that Warren Nehring and Cold Spring Granite Company have together donated the rock, landscaping and plaque that have been placed at the beginning of the trail in dedication to Richard Mathiowetz.

Dwaine Lindberg informed the group of a web site that has been created for the Lake Koronis Recreational Trail. Lynne Jacobson and Dwaine worked in creating the site.

We heard a report from Randy Thoreson, National Park Service.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned and the committee left for the set up of the dedication.
