Volleyball team begins season Sept. 3

The 1996 volleyball season was officially under way Monday, Aug. 19.

During the first week of practice, August 19 Ė 23, practice was held twice a day: 8 a.m. Ė 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Ė 8 p.m. All girls, grades nine through twelve, were competing for a spot on the freshmen team, B squad, or the varsity squad, for a total of 42 spots. After teams were chosen by the coaches, each squad practiced individually during the second week of practice.

Returning varsity players from last season include: seniors Michelle Glenz, Krista Fuchs, Stephanie Tangen, Sheri Lieser, Jill Spanier, Sarah Nelson and junior Sara Spanier.

First year varsity players include: juniors Stephanie Mueller, Stacey Roberg, sophomore Laura Mages and freshmen Carrie Hemmesch and Tanya Lieser.

The coaching staff this season consists of second year varsity coach Sheila Mayer, Tammy Botten coaching B Squad, and Collin Botten as the freshman coach.

The first game of the season is on Tuesday, Sept. 3, at Albany. On the following Thursday, the girls play Sauk Centre in their first home game.
