Boys cross country
Sixteen teams competed at the Morris Invite last Tuesday starting the running season. The Paynesville boys did a fine job by taking third.

Luke Trees led the Bulldogs in eleventh place at 18:50. Freshman Clayton Lang was 13th at 19:05, and captain Dan Johnson was 15th at 19:15.

ďThose three guys ran great together and really showed the potential of being with the best in the area,Ē commented coach Carstens.

Following the top three were Zach Spates in his first cross country race, then came Colby Scheierl, Troy Wendlandt, Adam Utsch, Eric Rausch, and Ryan Flanders.

ďWe were worried about depth at the start of the season, but Iím really pleased at how the new guys on the varsity came through. The young runners really moved forward,Ē stated coach Carstens.

Girls cross country
The Paynesville girls finished in the middle at Morris this past week, placing eighth.

Erin Aagesen led the girls in 16th place out of 106 runners. She was followed by 8th grader, Jenny Hess, in her first race, who placed 25th.

ďThis was a very tough meet with some highly state-ranked teams,Ē commented coach Carstens. ďWe ran fair for our first emet and had some very good performances.Ē
