Football season begins Thursday against Big Lake

The Paynesville Bulldog football team opened practice on Aug. 11 with 43 boys in grades 9-12. The first week of practice consisted primarily of conditioning and drills, and the second week saw the Bulldogs in full pads with full contact.

The Dogs competed in a scrimmage at Benson on Aug. 23, against Benson, KMS, MacCray, and Lac Qui Parle. The team did well in some areas, but showed they still need a lot of work in others.

This year's team is led by captains David Hemmesch, Billy Stanger, and Bret Aagesen. These three, along with the other seniors, are being counted on this year to be leaders both on and off the field.

The Dogs are hoping to be competitive despite the low number of kids on this year's team. The Bulldogs will open their season against Big Lake at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 28 in Paynesville.
