Cross-country teams start practice

Girls Cross Country
This yearís girls cross country team is fourteen girls strong.

Practices in both morning and evening started the season.

Returning letterwinners are: senior captains Emily Glenz and Amanda Lieser; juniors Jenny Wendlandt and Molly Meagher; sophomore Camille Flanders and freshman Erin Aagesen.

Others returning are: sophomore Amber Michaelis; freshmen Tiffany Rausch, Cindy Lang and Christina Utsch.

Newcomers for this year are: freshman Carin Frenchick and Missy Winter, and seventh graders Melinda Norris and Mesa Frenchick.

The season will get under way on Tuesday, August 27, in Morris with the meet beginning at 5:45 p.m.. Please come and cheer on this yearís cross country teams.


Boys Cross Country

The boys Bulldog cross country team began practice on Monday, Aug. 12. For the past week and a half, the team has been meeting twice a day to train for the up-coming season.

The boys cross country team were the conference champions last year and the sub-section runner-ups. They qualified for the section meet held here in Paynesville, although failed to advance to the state championship.

"This year, we definitely have to have state as our goal," stated Coach Darrel Carstens.

What does a cross country team do to train for the 5000 meter races? The first week looked like this:

Monday: 4 1/2 miles on golf course;

Tuesday: six mile run on golf course;

Wednesday: 50 minute run to thelake, then six uphill sprints;

Thursday: nine mile run in the country;

Friday: one mile warm-up,
