1.9-pound fish wins championship

The SportsmenÕs Club championship fishing tourney, which marked the end to the summer-long Monday Night Walleye League fishing contests, was last Sunday, August 11.

Contestants started at eight a.m. and had to turn in their fish by three p.m.

The prize money was over $1,000 total. The heaviest total weight of all the fish caught by each boat won, and the next four runners-up also received cash prizes. There was also a prize for the biggest fish.

Championship Results:

1. Dennis Spaulding and Barry Flanders, 2.9 pounds;

2.Dave Peschong and Jim Fredrick, 1.8 pounds;

3. Art Huriede and Dan Huriede, 1.6 pounds,

The Monday Night Walleye League was a fishing contest held Monday nights throughout the summer. The contest was on Rice Lake and Lake Koronis. At Koronis, the contest began from the Five-Mile Bridge. On Rice, it started from the new access.

The event was sponsored by P.J.Õs T.V. and Appliance, Hill Top, JimÕs Standard, The Outdoor Store, Community First Bank and NatheÕs Marine and Sports Center.
