Regal won two games this weekend in the Region 15C Baseball Tournament, being held in Regal, to become one of the two teams to advance to the Class C State Baseball Tournament.

Regal won its first game in the Region 15C Baseball Tournament on Saturday by a score of 8-1 over Richmond. In the second game, held on Sunday, Regal won over Litchfield by a score of 6-3.

In the Richmond game on Saturday, Regal jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the second inning.

In the fourth inning Regal added another run to make the score 6-0.

Regal plated two more runs in the eighth inning.

Richmond averted a shutout by scoring a run in the bottom of the ninth inning off of relief pitcher Ryan Spanier, a draftee from Melrose.

Mike Beier was the starting pitcher for Regal and recorded the win.

Leading hitters for Regal were: Tim Haines, 4-4 with 4 runs and 4 RBIs; Jeff Deming 2-4 with 2 runs and 1 RBI; Randy Beier 1-3 with 2 runs and 1 RBI; and Mike Tangen 1-3 with 1 run and 3 RBIs.

On Sunday, in the third game of the Region 15C Baseball Tournament, Regal beat Litchfield 6-3 to become one of two teams to advance to the Class C State Baseball Tournament.

Litchfield scored two unearned runs in the first inning to take an early 2-0 lead.
Regal answered with one run in the bottom of the first inning when Mike Beier led off with a home run.

In the third inning, Regal made the score 5-2. Tim Haines hit a three-run home run over the right-center field fence. Ron Fuchs then followed with a solo home run.

Litchfield scored one unearned run in the seventh inning on a hit bats man, an error and an infield out.

Regal scored one run in the bottom of the seventh inning on a solo home run by Tim Haines, his second of the game. This made the final score Regal 6 and Litchfield 3.

Leading hitters for Regal were: Mike Beier, 1-4 with a solo home run; Tim Haines, 2-4 with two home runs and four RBIs; Ron Fuchs, 1-4 with a solo home run; Randy Beier, 2-4; and Dave Zaeska, 3-4.

Ryan Spanier started for Regal and got the win and Tim Haines came in relief for three innings and got a save.

Region 15C action this weekendÖ
On Saturday, Aug. 9, Litchfield will play Richmond at 1:30 p.m. in Regal for the third round of the tournament. The winner will become the second team of the tournament to advance to the state tournament and the loser is done.

On Sunday, Aug. 10, the winner of Saturdayís game will take on Regal to see who will be the Region 15C champion. Regal will have to lose twice to take the runner-up position.

The teams advancing on to the state tournament will play on Friday, Aug. 15, in Delano.

The second place team will play at 5 p.m. and the Region 15C champion will play at 7:30 p.m.
