The Little Crow Water Ski Team once again earned the title of state champions for the sixth consecutive year. With 1,991 points, the ski team topped Rochester, taking the victory of Mid-States Champions by 120 points.

Formed in 1979 with 15 people, the Little Crow Ski Team, now made up of 110 skiers and 50 support personnel from six years old to 70, has defended their state title since 1992. Many previous Little Crow skiers have gone on to professional skiing at Tommy Bartlett, Six Flags Magic Mountain, Marine World, Holiday Park Ski Show in Germany, Sea World, Cypress Gardens, and Water Ski Shows, Inc.

This year the team performed to the theme of "Late Night with Little Crow," which centered around the Little Crow television talk show with host Mike Schroeder. Visiting the set in the theater were celebrities from sports, movies and television. The top 10 list was read and Mike's mother made her appearance, proud of her brilliant son. Commercials, cameras, interviews and canned hams rounded out the activity from the studio.

Although the skiers had a few nervous moments during the last evening of competition last Sunday, beginning with a penalty and slightly rising winds, the tournament judges didn't seem to take much notice. The ski team received perfect scores in all events, including pyramid building and barefoot, as well as support activities such as dock teamwork.

The Little Crow Ski Team will again perform this Friday at 7 p.m. at Neer Park in New London, and one week later they'll compete against fierce competition during nationals in Janesville, Wis., on Aug. 9 and 10.
