7th and 8th grade baseball team 2-1

The seventh and eighth grade baseball team went 2-1 on the week.

On Monday, July 20, they were defeated by Eden Valley 13-2 in an exihibition game.

Nick Fuchs pitched for Paynesville.

Paynesville played against the team with some ninth graders and was not able to get much going offensively.

On Tuesday, July 21, Paynesville defeated Willmar Blue 11-1.

Milan Virant started and pitched the whole game for Paynesville. Virant struck out four batters in the game while holding Willmar to just one run.

Chris Fuchs led Paynesville in hitting going 3-3 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Fuchs also had three triples. Virant had a good day at the plate as well. He helped his own cause going 2-3 with an RBI.

On Thursday night Paynesville defeated Willmar Red 11-3.

Kevin Mehr started and pitched two innings of shutout baseball. Brian Hartmann came in and threw two-thirds of an inning but had problems throwing strikes as he walked six batters. Ryan Schneider came in to close the game out.

This was Paynesvilleís last regular season game as they finished the season at 7-1 and are seated first going into the playoffs.

They played their first-round game on Tuesday night. If Paynesville wins, they will play in the championship game on Tuesday night in Willmar at 5:30 p.m. If they lose, they will play in the third place game at 4 p.m. on Thursday.
