Spates, Hiltner compete in national wrestling

Jesse Spates and Lee Hiltner, Paynesville, competed in the Espoir National Wrestling Championships at Purdue University, West Lafayette, Ind.

Espoirs are between 17 and 20 years old, and include many of the best young college and high school wrestlers in the nation, according to the Guillotine.

In the Greco-Roman championships, Jesse Spates, at 198 pounds, was pinned by Josh Nunez, Winter Haven, Fla.

At 220 pounds, Lee Hiltner lost a 4-1 decision to Brent Boeschans, Beulah, N.D., but placed seventh in the freestyle wrestling competition.

Both Spates and Hiltner represented the Minnesota Storm Team and were wrestling for seventh place. In the team standings, Minnesota Storm won first place with 122 points.
