Michaelis jumped very smart by clearing 5' 2" on her first attempt, making her second place finish solid and qualifying her for the state meet. Michaelis also competed in the 300-meter hurdles, but did not place.
Tiffany Rausch, Teresa Rodriguez, Steph Tangen, and Erin Aagesen also competed in the Section 5A meet.
Overall, the team scored 23 points, tying them for 13th place out of 32 teams.
Michaelis will compete in the state meet at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 7, at the National Sports Center in Blaine.
Boys track. . .
The Paynesville boys track team competed at the Section track meet on May 31, in Delano. The sun scorched the Earth as the competitors scorched the track.
The guys were met with their fiercest competition of the year. The team tried their very best, and ended up a respectable 14th out of 24 teams.
Dan Johnson placed seventh in the 1600-meter run and came back pumped and ready for the 800-meter run. Though placing fifth in the 800, his time was good enough to qualify him for state. He ran a 2:01.07, barely beating the state qualifying standard of 2:01.15.
This race was an example of the stellar competition at the meet. Six runners dipped under 2:01.15. Johnson's race was the biggest highlight of the meet for the Bulldogs.
Jeff Voss, Tom Knutson, Chad Hollander, Matt Jorgensen, Luke Trees, Troy Wendlandt, Doug Utsch, Grant Bowden, and Josh Jones also competed in Sections.
Johnson will run the 800-meter in the preliminaries, at 6:30 p.m. at the state meet, held at the National Sports Center in Blaine.
