Boys Track. . .
The Paynesville Bulldog boys track team placed third with 87 points, at the Sub Section meet in Litchfield last Thursday, May 22.

Ten PHS boys will advance to the Section track meet. To advance from Sub Sections, individual scores had to place in the top four, and relays in the top two.

Tom Knutson placed third in the shot put by a mere three inches. Tom has a good chance of making it to state if he continues to throw his best.

Dan Johnson placed second in the 1600-meter run, with a near personal best time. He also placed first in the 800-meter run, winning a very close race by approximately 1.3 seconds.

Chad Hollander edged out the competition in the 400-meter dash by placing fourth, and Grant Bowden smoked his competitors in the 300-meter hurdles, taking first.

Coming through for the team and for himself was Jeff Voss, who pole vaulted a personal best of 10'. Jeff will also advance to the Section meet.

The most exciting race of the day was definitely the 1600-meter relay. Chad Hollander, Dan Johnson, Josh Jones, and Grant Bowden received a first place in one of the closest races of the day. In the last leg of the relay, Grant nipped an Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City runner by six hundreths of a second.

The next meet for the Bulldogs will be the Section track meet on Saturday, May 31, in Delano.

Girls Track. . .
The Paynesville girls track team, with a score of 130, won the honor of Sub Section 20 champions for the second consecutive year at the May 22 meet in Litchfield.

This is the first time the Paynesville girls track team has won two consecutive Sub Section championships, and also the first time in our school's history that Paynesville has won consecutive Sub Section championships in girl's athletics.

The top four individuals and top two relays will advance to Sections where they will then have the chance to further advance to state competition.

The Section 5A meet will be held at the Delano High School this Saturday, May 31. Preliminaries will begin at 9:30 a.m.
