Local athletes compete in Special Olympics

Twelve Paynesville athletes were among 130 to compete in the Area 7 Track and Field Special Olympics on Saturday, May 16, in Rockford.

Competing from Paynesville were Alyscia Braun, Margaret Schmitz, Dallas Richardson, Danny Schutz, Jesse Bahner, Yvette Lounsbury, Matt Bayer, Michael Naujokas, Dustin Rudy, Erica Wander, Mike Sturtz, and Chris Sturtz.

The Paynesville athletes earned the following ribbons:

100-meter racewalk: Alyscia Braun, first.

100-meter race: Michael Naujokas, first; Dallas Richardson, second; Margaret Schmitz, fourth; and Dustin Rudy, fifth.

200-meter race: Wander, first; Bahner and Lounsbury, second.

400-meter race: Schutz and Mike Sturtz, first; Chris Sturtz, second; and Bayer, third.

Softball throw: Bahner, first; Braun, M. Sturtz, Schutz, and Lounsbury, second; Schmitz, Rudy, C. Sturtz, Wander and Naujokas, third; Richardson, fourth.

Standing long jump: Bayer, second.

Relay teams: second, Michael and Chris Sturtz, Wander and Rudy; third, Naujokas, Lounsbury, Bayer and Schutz.

The athletes are coached by Jane Hjelle.
