The Paynesville girl's track team won their third consecutive District 20 Sub Section 5A championship.

This is the first time a Paynesville girlâs track team has won three district titles back-to-back in any sport in the school's history. They are also ranked first in the area by the West Central Tribune in their final team rankings. The girls won 10 out of 11 track meets this spring.

The sub section team scores were:
Paynesville - 178.5
ACGC - 165.5
New London-Spicer - 161
Annandale - 77
Dassel-Cokato - 47
Eden Valley-Watkins - 41
Belgrade - 15

The 3200-meter relay team had a great race. They almost broke the school record, but missed it by a second. Their time was 10:20. The members are Cyndi Bollman, Leanne Kolb, Paula Leyendecker, and Carin Frenchick. They ran their best time of the season.

Another team that ran their best time was the 800 relay. Their time was 1:56 and the members are Courtney Karsch, Mandi McCool, Gina Benson, and Desi Petkoff.

Jenny Hess, an eighth grader, recorded her best time in the mile with a 5:25.

Tiffany Rausch received a first in the 400-meter dash and 200-meter dash, and second in the 100-meter dash. She won her second consecutive district title in the 200 and the 400.

In the 300-meter hurdles, Amber Michaelis ran her best time of 49.5. Desi Petkoff also advances to sections in both of her hurdle races.

In the 3200-meter run, Erin Aagesen ran her best race and got her best time of the season with a time of 12:26.

In the field events, Benson and Michaelis both did a great job by receving a first and second place in the high jump.

In order to advance on to the section, you have to get in the top four places in the running and field events, and the top two relay teams.

The section qualifiers are: Teresa Rodriquez, Sara Spanier, Gina Benson, Amber Michaelis, Erin Aagesen, Carin Frenchick, Desi Petkoff, Tiffany Rausch, and Jenny Hess.

"This is the best team I have ever coached and that includes some outstanding teams of the past that we have had in Paynesville girl's track. This team is really special. The team had a dominating season, and was very consistant at performing at a high level. This is really hard to do through an entire track season, but this team did the job all season long," said coach Dave Randgaard. The final season record was 58-4 which is the best record in the history of girls track at Paynesville.

The section meet will take place Saturday, May 30, at St. Michael-Albertville High School. The first race starts at 9:50 a.m. for the girls.

True Team
The girls track team had the True Team meet at Rocori on May 8. The first place team would advance on to the State True Team. It was a very nerve wracking meet and the girls had some really excellent races.

The team scores were:
Sartell - 668
Sauk Rapids - 533.5
Rocori - 480
Becker - 470
Paynesville - 448.5
Litchfield - 448
Minnewaska - 435
Big Lake - 345
Benson - 336
Morris - 315
Sauk Centre - 239
Annandale - 233

The girls gave it their all, but since they were competing against bigger schools, the competition was much stronger.

"We went up against our toughest competition of the season and the two injuries to Michaelis and Leyendecker really hurt the team scoring. Sartell and Sauk Rapids have over 60 girls out for track and their numbers helped them in this meet. We also had some excellent performances, but just not enough depth to compete against the bigger schools. The stiff competition will help us out in the bigger meets to come," said coach Randgaard in regards to the meet.
