Paynesville girls ninth grade basketball team arrived at the tournament with high hopes and tired bodies. We thank Coach Brad Skoglund who came out of retirement to rejoin the girls basketball program for this tournament. He took time from his busy schedule to work his girls hard and ready them for action.

The first game against Dassel-Cokato looked like a close game from the start. During the second half the girls got hot and pulled ahead to score a close 23-21 victory. The win put the Bulldogs in the championship bracket against Eden Valley-Watkins.

Eden Valley-Watkins played a tough game. The final score was Eden Valley-Watkins 25 and Bulldogs 11. Eden Valley-Watkins went on to defeat New London-Spicer in the championship game.

The final game for the Bulldogs was against Melrose for third place. The team had lost to Melrose three times this season. Sinking 75 percent of their free throws along with the positive team effort pulled off a 29-24 win. Third place can be a very impressive win.
