PHS baseball team wins two, loses two last week

The Bulldogs lost for the first time this season, to Melrose 6-2, on Monday, April 15, in Paynesville.

Unfortunately, the Bulldogs had many fielding errors, which caused their loss. Five unearned runs were scored because of errors.

This made Paynesville 0-1 in the conference and 2-1 overall.

Melrose: 000 130 2 - 6-5-3
Paynesville: 200 000 0 - 2-3-5

The Bulldogs got their first conference win by defeating Sauk Centre on Tuesday April 16, in Sauk Centre, 3-1.

ďIt was a pretty solid defensive game, and Mike (Stalboerger) gave a good pitching preformance,Ē said Bret Aagesen.

This victory made Paynesville 1-1 in conference play and gave them a 3-1 record overall on the season.

Paynesville: 000 102 0 - 3-5 -2
Sauk Centre: 000 100 0 - 1 -3-1

The Bulldogs played their third game of the week last Thursday, and lost 6-2 to Albany, in Avon.

Paynesville didnít play well on either offense or defense, which is what caused their loss of this game.

Paynesville dropped to 3-2 overall and 1-2 in the conference. ďWe need to play more consistantly as a team,Ē said coach Brad Skoglund.

Albany: 500 010 0 - 6-7-1

The Bulldogs defeated the Litchfield Dragons, 6-2 on Friday, in Paynesville.

Jason Schlecht pitched for Paynesville, giving up only two runs in seven innings.

This victory closed out a busy week for the Bulldogs, who finished 2-2 for the week.

The Bulldogs have a tournament scheduled for Saturday in Paynesville, where theyíll play at 10 p.m. and again at 2:30 p.m. They also have a home game scheduled against St. Cloud Cathedral this Thursday.
