Girls golf: Place 4th in two meets

This article submitted by Lynn Stoneburner on 4/28/98.

The Paynesville Bulldog girlís golf team competed in their first West Central Conference meet on Monday, April 20, at the Litchfield Golf Course, home of the Dragons. For early season, the course was in fine shape.

The team, fresh off a 2-0 start in meets at Melrose and Kimball, was excited to open the WCC season.

The competition was better than the girls expected to face. A number of noted girl golfers had graduated from Albany (Kristen Dooley), Long Prairie (Angela Eldred), and others. Despite this, the Bulldog girls faced some very tough team scores.

The Bulldogs were not pleased with the fourth place finish. There was a time when 192 and fourth would have been acceptable, but these returning letterwinners are now juniors and seniors, who expect to do better. And coach Todd Knudsvig has made it clear he expects it, too!

The girls team traveled to Angushire Golf Course in St. Cloud, home of the Crusaders, on April 23.

Despite the great conditions, the Bulldogs could do no better than fourth. Paynesvilleís highlights were few and far between. However, Frandson and Stoneburner again parred their last holes. Frandson and Norris were driving well at this meet.
