The Paynesville Area High School girl's softball team took the field last week in Litchfield, losing 8-2, for their first overdue game of the 1997 softball season.

"They played a really good first game," said coach Murry Rafferty. "They just need to get into the game a little more."

The Lady Bulldogs hosted Melrose last Wednesday in their first home game, playing good, solid ball, but losing 6-4. Batting helped bring the girls closer to a victory, but with a few defensive errors the Bulldogs couldn't pull off the big "W" they had hoped for.

Varsity tournament
On an absolutely beautiful day last Saturday, April 19, the Lady Bulldogs hosted a varsity tournament, including Long Prairie-Grey Eagle, Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa, and Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City.

"The girls need to get into the game with their bodies as well as their minds," said Coach Rafferty. "A lot of the mistakes made on Saturday can be corrected easily with practice."
