This article submitted by Lynn Stoneburner & Mackenzie Merrill on 4/21/98.

The Paynesville boys and girls golf teams opened the season at Meadowlark Country Club in Melrose on April 14. The weather was cool, but dry. A stiff breeze made the wind a factor.

The boys team competed against Melrose and lost 182-199, while the girls went against Melrose and Sauk Centre and won 210; Sauk was second with 218; and Melrose had 245.

Golfing for the boys team were: Ryan Mackedanz, James Gulbranson, Ryan Stoneburner, Matt Brossard, Ryan Wall, Joey Koshiol, Josh Ryan, Adam Ryan, Corey Schmitt, and John Manthei.

Golfing for the girls were: Mary Frandson, Rachel Larson, Lynn Stoneburner, Mackenzie Merrill, Erin OíFallon, Melinda Norris, Katie Wright, and Maria Janotta.

Kimball meet
The golf teams met up with the Kimball Cubs at the Kimball Golf Course on Friday, April 17. It was a beautiful day for golf.

As with the meet at Melrose, all members of both teams made the trip, allowing coaches an opportunity to test individuals in competition.

Paynesvilleís boys team total was 187, not good enough to beat the Kimball boys, who shot a team total of 167.

For the Paynesville girls at Kimball, the team total was 200, a ten stroke improvement from the Melrose meet. The young Kimball team struggled on this day, posting a team total of 264.

The girls team record is now 2-0 for the 1998 season.
