Girls track: Looking forward to another great season

The girls track team began practice under the direction of head coach Dave Randgaard and assistant coach Scott George on Monday, March 9. Twenty- four girls are out on the team this year.

Returning Letterwinners include:
Seniors: Teresa Rodriguez and Sara Spanier.
Juniors: Gina Benson, Paula Leyendecker, Trish Lieser, and Amber Michaelis.
Sophomores: Erin Aagesen, Carin Frenchick, Courtney Karsch, Cindy Lang, Mandi McCool, and Tiffany Rausch.
Freshman:Joy Hemmesch.

Also joining the team this year are Camille Flanders, Krysta Larson, Tanya Lieser, Desi Petkoff, Cyndi Bollmann, Leann Kolb, Katrina Orbeck, Jaime Teicher, Jana Zumwalde, Jenny Hess and Heidi Jansen.

Team captains for the 1998 season are Sara Spanier, Gina Benson, Amber Michaelis, and Paula Leyendecker.

The girls return as defending Sub Section 20 champions for two consecutive years and West Central Conference runners-up for the past two seasons. ďWe can accomplish the repeat if we have the same desire and competitive spirit we have shown in the past,Ē said Coach Randgaard.

The girls have their first meet Saturday, March 21, at 1 p.m. at St. Cloud State (Halenbeck Hall). Sartell is hosting the meet. Other teams that will be there include: Albany, Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa, Sauk Centre, Morris, and Sartell.

Through the season, the girls will be doing pretty much the same events. They are as follows:
Teresa Rodriguez: shot and discus.
Sara Spanier: pole vault (which is new this year for females) shot, discus, and relays.
Gina Benson: high jump, triple jump, 300 hurdles, and relays.
Camille Flanders: pole vault.
Paula Leyendecker: 400, 800, 3200, 1600 relay, and shot put.
Trish Lieser: 400 relays.
Amber Michaelis: high jump, long jump, triple jump, 100 and 300 hurdles.
Erin Aagesen: 3200 relay, 800, and 1600 relay.
Carin Frenchick: 3200, 800, and 1600 relay.
Courtney Karsch: 100, 200, and relays.
Cindy Lang: 100 and 300 hurdles, and pole vault.
Krysta Larson: hurdles, pole vault, shot, and discus.
Tanya Lieser: 400, relays, high jump, and triple jump.
Mandi McCool: high jump, triple jump, and relays.
Desi Petkoff: 100 and 300 hurdles, and relays.
Tiffany Rausch: 100, 200, 400, relays, long jump.
Cyndi Bollmann: 3200 relay, 800, 1600, and 3200.
Joy Hemmesch: triple jump, long jump, and relays.
LeAnn Kolb: 3200 relay, 800, 1600, and 3200.
Katrina Orbeck: 100 & 300 hurdles, 400, and long jump.
Jenny Hess: 3200 relay, 800, 1600, and 3200.
Heidi Jansen: shot, discus, relays, and 100.
