Girls hockey: Gives awards at banquet

This article submitted by Courtney Karsch on 3/10/98.

On Feb. 20, the River Lakes girls hockey team finished off their season with a banquet. It was a very fun, yet sad night for the girls.

Participation awards were given to Julia Mehr, Jesse Simom, Emily Doll and Karen Haftner.

The letterwinners were Kari Turkowski, Shari Vogt, Courtney Karsch, Mary Beth Johannes, Katie Green, Annie Bohlman, Missy Sieben, Missy Jungles, Natalie Rinn and Page Widick.

Other awards were:
Most team spirit: Julia Mehr
Most improved: Annie Bohlman
Captains: Kari Turkowski & Shari Vogt

No team could do anything without a goalie. Fortunately for the Stars, they had two very talented goalies, Shari Vogt and Jesse Simon. Vogt had a total of 572 shots on goal and saved 549 of them ending the season with a 96 percent average. Simon had 90 shots on goal and saved 76 of them with a 84.4 percent average.

As a special award for the inaugural season, each one of the players got a puck with "River Lakes 1997-1998" engraved in it.

The Stars had a successful season and they hope that there are more girls out for it next year.
