The Bulldogs ended their seven game losing streak with a victory over Melrose, 62-48 Friday in Melrose.

Paynesville was led by Grant Bowden and Mike Stalboerger, each scoring 15 points. Josh Williams also scored eight points off the bench for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs started off hot with an early lead and were up 16-11 at the end of the first quarter, thanks to two three pointers by Stalboerger.

In the second quarter, Bowden and Stalboerger combined scored 11 of the 17 Paynesville points.

However, Eric Spanier kept the Dutchmen close by hitting two three pointers of his own. One of them was from about 25 feet out. At the half, Paynesville was up 33-24.

Again, the third quarter proved to be a defensive quarter for both teams. Melrose scored 11 as the Bulldogs were held to 10 points. Bowden and Ross Jenniges each had four in the third. Paynesville was up eight at the end of the third 43-35.

In the fourth, the Bulldogs scored 19, with Williams scoring 6. Clutch free throw shooting also helped Paynesville pull away late in the game.

The Bulldogs offense looked better than it had all year with better pass movement. The Bulldogs also kept their turnovers lower, which were key factors in the Bulldog's victory.

With this victory, Paynesville's record is 4-10, with their first conference victory all season. This was also their first win since Christmas.
