Boys basketball loses two close games

The Bulldogs lost their third consecutive game on Monday, Jan. 20, against Albany. The final score was 65-61.

Grant Bowden led the Bulldogs with 19 points; however, neither Paynesville or Albany's bench scored a single point. The Bulldogs had four players in double digits for points, though. Mike Stalboerger had 15, Ross Jenniges had 13, and Joe Bergstrom had 12.

Bauer and Nordmann together scored 45 of Albany's 65 total points.

The two teams will play again in Albany on February 21.

The Bulldogs losing streak extended to four with the loss to Sauk Centre 73-62, Friday night in Sauk Centre.

David Hemmesch led the Bulldogs with 16 points and seven rebounds.

Paynesville's junior guard Joe Bergstrom sprained his ankle early in the game and did not return; however, senior Josh Williams and Junior Tony Hoffman played well in Bergstrom's absence.

The second half, however, was another story. The Bulldogs expanded their lead to nine at the end of the third quarter, but in the fourth they fell apart giving up 31 points to Sauk Centre.

In the fourth, the Mainstreeters hit 4 three-pointers. In less than a minute Paynesville went from nine ahead to one behind.

The Bulldogs had many late turnovers causing them to lose the game.

The Bulldogs record is now 3-7. They played Eden Valley-Watkins on Monday; a complete report will be in next week's Press.
