Offensive woes doom Stars in losses to Alexandria, Fergus Falls

By Michael Jacobson

The River Lakes Stars girls' hockey team dropped two games last week, managing only one goal in two games. The Stars lost to Alexandria 4-1 on Thursday and to Fergus Falls 3-0 on Tuesday.

Against Alex, the Cardinals scored three first-period goals. They scored their first goal midway through the first period and never trailed after that. They added a goal with three minutes to play in the first period and with 30 seconds to play in the period.

Trailing 3-0, the Stars cut into that deficit with the only goal in the second period. Senior forward Amber Schulzetenberge scored a short-handed goal midway through the period to make the score 3-1.

Alexandria, though, scored in the first minute of the third period and neither team could score in the final 16 minutes of play.

The Stars (6-7-2) do not play any games this week. They resume their schedule in January. Next week, they will play at Brainerd on Tuesday, Jan. 3.
