Stars beat Alex for fourth win of season

Add another win on to the Stars' season. The River Lakes Stars girls' hockey team hosted Alexandria at the Koronis Civic Arena in Paynesville on Tuesday, Dec. 17, and won 1-0.

Junior Trisha Wendlandt was in goal for the Stars and made 30 saves for the shutout. For Alexandria, Askley Weisel was in goal and made 18 saves.

Junior Emily Moschkau scored the only goal of the game in the third period for the Stars, assisted by ninth grader Marie Omann.

"It is a big conference win for us; it is very fun for us to see," said coach Kirby St. John. "The girls do not quit. They keep going 'til the very end; we are very proud of all of our players."

The Stars are now 4-6-1.

The Stars will play in a holiday tournament at Blaine this week. They open the tournament against Champlin Park on Thursday at noon. On Friday they will play either Brainerd or Shakopee. If they win on Thursday, they will play at 8:45 p.m. on Friday; if they lose on Thursday, they will play at 4:45 p.m. on Friday.

On Saturday, the consolation games will be held at 10:45 a.m., with the third-place game at 12:45 p.m., and the championship game at 2:45 p.m.

Brainerd 3, River Lakes 1
River Lakes hosted Brainerd at the River Lakes Arena in Richmond on Thursday. Unfortunately the game was a letdown, with the Stars losing the conference game 3-1.

However, the River Lakes did outshoot Brainerd 22-18.

Senior Crystal Songetay was in net until midway through the first period. Then junior Trisha Wendlandt played the remainder of the game. They combined to make 15 saves.

Senior Marya Losinski scored the lone goal for the Stars in the third period.
