Boys basketball: Win two, lose one in tourney

On Dec.19, the Paynesville Bulldog boys basketball team traveled to Kimball to finish the holiday tournament by playing Maple Lake. Both teams came into the game with one win and one loss for the tournament. Paynesville defeated Maple Lake 50-36.

In the first half, the Bulldogs did not play very good basketball. They were slow on defense and did not look to score on offense like they normally do.

At the end of the first half, the score was deadlocked at 19 points each. Neither team seemed to be able to get their offense going.

In the third quarter, Paynesville outscored their opponents 18 to 8 and the momentum of the game had gone to Paynesville. After this the Bulldogs didnít look back.

In the fourth quarter, it was obvious who was in control of the game. Maple Lake, who was 4-1, had met their match, the Bulldogs won the game with ease 50 to 36.

The Paynesville B-Squad is hot right now and are on a five-game winning streak, going 3-0 in the holiday tournament

The Paynesville boysí basketball team hosted the BBE Jaguars on Dec. 18, in their second game of the holiday tournament, but losing 38-37.

In the first half, the Bulldogs seemed to be intimidated by the 6-7 Brent Frikken. The Bulldogs were afraid to take the ball to the basket, in fear of being blocked.

The Bulldogs held BBE to only six points during the third quarter.

The Bulldogs played great defense and were patient on offense in the fourth quarter. Despite their valiant effort, the Jaguars held the Bulldogs off and squeezed by with a narrow one-point victory.

The Paynesville boysí basketball team started the holiday tournament off strong with an easy victory, 56-35, over the Kimball Cubs on Dec. 16.

In the first half, the Bulldogs played excellent defense and offense, and came out of the first half with a hefty lead over the Cubs.

In the second half, the Bulldogs came out of the lockerroom fired up. By the end of the game the Cubs looked very frustrated and couldnít get a shot to fall.
