The Lady Bulldogs hosted the Melrose Dutchmen on Dec. 11 and were able to sneak by with a 43-41 win.

The Bulldogs started off well, but as the quarter progressed, they seemed to lack the hustle and confidence the Dutchmen displayed. At the end of the first quarter, the score was tied at 12-12.

During the second quarter, things seemed to get worse for the Lady Bulldogs. They committed many unforced turnovers, and trailed going into halftime, 25-22.

The girls were only able to score eight points during the third quarter. Melrose was still up, 33-30.

The fourth quarter proved to be an interesting challenge for the Bulldogs. The girls battled back fiercely and were able to gain a five-point lead with a minute left on the clock.
Melrose's point-guard Ruth Primus challenged that lead by draining a three- pointer, and after a Bulldog turnover, Jenny Koetter missed a shot at the buzzer that would have won Melrose the game.

Amber Michaeli recorded 16 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, four steals, and three blocked shots.

Paynesville: 12 10 8 13 -- 43
