Eighth grade boys win own tournament

In a round-robin basketball tournament with four teams playing Dec. 6, the Paynesville eighth grade boys won their division.

In the first game of the morning, they played Kimball. The team led 12-7 at the half and outscored Kimball 19-14 in the second half to win 31-21.

Nick Glenz scored eight points and Wes Lieser added six points to lead the team.

ďWe played a good game, but can play even better,Ē Coach Dave Randgaard commented.

In the second game, Paynesville defeated Eden Valley-Watkins 26-12.

The Bulldogs led all four quarters with all the team members contributing to this victory. Eric Rausch scored eight points and Ryan Schneider added seven.

In their third and final game of the tournament, Paynesville outplayed Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa 38-16.

ďWe played our best game of the season in this game. The defense played by the team was very aggressive and we really helped each other out,Ē Coach Randgaard said.

Paynesville led 15-2 at the end of the first quarter and put this game away early with a 24-6 lead at half time.

Scoring for the tournament were: Rausch, 19; Schneider, 17; Glenz, 13; Jones, 10; Schefers, 9; Lieser, 8; Josh Trees, 6; Aaron Lang, 5; Joe Bertram, 5; Adam Larson, 2; and Ryan Whitcomb, 1.
The team record thus far this season is 10-5.
