PHS wrestlers overpower Albany 49-12

On Dec. 10, the Bulldogs traveled to Albany for their only match of the week. With three hard practices before the Thursday night match, the Bulldogs were in great shape to take on the Albany Huskies.

As Nathan Glenz stepped out on the mat at 103 pounds, it was clear the Bulldogs were ready to dominate. Glenz quickly pinned his opponent in the first period, which started a line of four pins with Jeremy Sogge, Brad Schultz, and David Kerzman following at 112, 119, and 125, respectively.

At 130 Nick Fuchs, a freshman, stepped up against a very tough opponent, and wrestled a great match, but was caught in a hold and got pinned. Justin Mueller stepped on the mat at 135 and easily beat his opponent 13-1.

With Chris Welle at 140 and Joe Hiltner at 145, the Bulldogs recorded a tech fall and another pin.

Wrestling at 152 was Chris Sogge, with his undefeated string on the line, he knew he was going to have a very tough match against Travis Hoffarth (A). Chris narrowly lost 5-1 in that match.

Moving on to the next weight was Karl Sanborn wrestling at 160. Karl majored his opponent 16-7.

At 171 and 189, Zac Spates and Josh Bork both recorded wins, even though they were not favored. Zac won by one point, and Josh won by five.

Matt Brauchler wrestled at heavyweight for the Bulldogs and wrestled well against a tough opponent. He lost a 10-5 decision.

Coach Virg Vagle stated the top move in the match went to Brad Schultz, when he recorded a monkey roll and scored five points off it. The top match of the night was at 171 and 189, with Zac Spates and Josh Bork both defeating their opponents when they werenít favored.
