Stars drop two games

Holy Family Catholic took a 3-0 lead and held on to beat the River Lakes Stars boys' hockey team 4-2 on Saturday at the Koronis Civic Arena in Paynesville.

The Stars broke into the scoring column midway through the second period when senior forward Luke Harren scored, assisted by junior forward Alex Naujokas and senior defenseman Jamie Paul, to cut Holy Family's lead to 3-1. Holy Family scored a power-play goal with two minutes to go in the period to retake a three-goal lead at 4-1.

The Stars scored the only goal of the third period with senior defenseman Zach Johnson scoring with six minutes to play on a power play, assisted by senior Kurt Peterson and Naujokas, but the Stars could get no closer.

Holy Family built a 3-0 lead by scoring with six minutes to play in the first period and then scoring twice in the first five minutes of the second period.

This week, the Stars (1-5) played at Benson/Morris on Tuesday. They will play at Sartell on Thursday. (Their game against Litchfield, originally scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 17, has been cancelled. Instead, a game against Becker/Big Lake at the Koronis Civic Arena has been added for Friday, Feb. 3.)

Next week, the Stars will host Fergus Falls on Tuesday, Dec. 20, at the River Lakes Arena in Richmond.

St. Cloud Apollo 5, Stars 1
St. Cloud Apollo limited the Stars to 19 shots on goal and one tally in winning a Central Lakes Conference game 5-1 on Tuesday, Dec. 6, at the National Hockey Center in St. Cloud.

The Eagles built a 2-0 lead over the first half of the game. Then they scored with three minutes to play in the second period, making it 3-0.

Junior forward Josh Engquist, assisted by junior defenseman Blake Williamson, scored the only goal for the Stars 40 seconds later, cutting the deficit to 3-1.

But the Eagles scored in the first minute of the third period to take a three-goal lead again and scored with five minutes to play to make the final score 5-1.
