Bulldogs get first hoops win

By Sara Lieser

The Bulldogs beat the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Jaguars by 30 points for their first victory of the season on Monday, Dec. 3. The Dogs had lost two in a row, and were ready for a win, which they got at home, 72-42.

Both teams started out even, exchanging baskets during each possession. A three-point shot put the Dogs up by three at the end of the first quarter, 14-11.

The Dogs started the second quarter out with full-court pressure, and held the Jaguars to nine points while scoring 15, extending their lead. The Dogs' full-court pressure and depth wore out the Jaguars in the third quarter. Paynesville used fresh bodies to outscore the Jaguars by 15 in the third quarter, 22-7.

In the fourth quarter, the Dogs let up on defense a bit, giving up 15 points, but once again ran good offense and scored 21 points.

ÒI think we really played well as a team. We are just like a truck, hard to get started, but once we get going we are ready to go for the whole game,Ó said junior Danny Lieser.

All 12 players on the Bulldogs' roster scored at least two points. Senior Stacy Lieser led the team by netting 17 points, and senior Heidi Jansen added 12.
