Stars' rally falls short

By Michael Jacobson

The River Lakes Stars' third-period rally fell short against Delano on Friday night. The 5-2 loss was the Stars' second defeat of the season.

Delano scored twice in the first period and held a 2-0 lead until the third period. The Tigers scored again with 12 minutes to play to take a 3-0 lead, but then the Stars started their rally.

Senior forward Derek Dahlen scored with nine minutes to play to cut the deficit to 3-1, and then senior forward Mike Stang scored on a power play with 2:25 to play to cut Delano's lead to one, at 3-2.

But Delano scored with a minute to play and then scored on an empty net with 11 seconds to play to make the final margin 5-2.

Delano center Scott Rakos had a hand in all five of the Tigers' goals, totaling two goals and three assists for the night.

The Tigers outshot the Stars 38-22. Sophomore goalie Blake Theisen made 33 saves for the Stars.

The Stars' game against Becker/Big Lake last week was postponed due to fog. No make-up date has been set yet.
