Ice arena opening soon

Members of the Paynesville-New London-Spicer Hockey Association have been busy preparing the ice arena for use this winter.

The arena has undergone numerous improvements this fall. The association just finished the first phase of installing plexiglass on the side walls around the ice surface and will replace the wire with plexiglass on the rest of the rink next year. All the cement work on the outside of the rink was also finished this year. Other improvements include the addition of bleachers, a new lighting system which will hopefully be installed in December and a new ice resurfacer should be here by Christmas. Another new service at the arena this year is a phone message service listing the public skating hours for the week. The number is 243-7623.

The hockey schedule has begun and there are seven teams using the arena. They include the Mites, Termites, Squirts, PeeWee, Bantams, and boys and girls Junior Midgets.

Weather permitting the public ice skating at the arena will begin this weekend.
