This article submitted by Courtney Karsch on 12/9/97.

On Friday, Dec. 5, the Stars played the Grand Rapids Thunderhawks at home. The girls went into the game being very exited. They were pumped up and wanted to win.

No goals were scored in the first period, and no penalties were called on both teams. The Stars skated hard and ended up with four shots on goal and the Thunderhawks had 14 shots.

Shari Vogt, the Stars goalie, saved some incredible shots, stopping all 14 shots.

In the second period, the Stars had good shots on goal but none were scored. The Stars had seven shots on goal and the Thunderhawks 11. Vogt had a great period stopping all 11 shots. The score remained 0 - 0.

Two penalties in the third period hurt the Stars because now they could only have three skaters on the ice. The Stars had to skate extra hard to kill the penalty time. Right after the Stars gained full control again, they got another penalty.

With 39 seconds left in the game, the Thunderhawks scored. The goal was unexpected. Coach Christie decided to pull Vogt from the net. The Stars wanted to finish strong so they skated really hard and aggressive. The second goal scored by the Thunderhawks went in to the open net giving the Thunderhawks 2 goals and the 2-0 win.

The Thunderhawks had a total of 40 shots on goal and the Stars 16 shots. The girls thought they played well and they then focused on defeating Eastview on Saturday Dec. 6 at home.

The Stars played Eastview on Saturday, Dec. 6. This is also Eastview's first year as a team. The Stars had a hard loss the day before so they wanted to come back and win this game.

The action started at the end of the first period. Eastview got their first penalty called for cross checking. Shortly after that, they scored their first goal. At the end of the period, the Stars had 11 shots on goal and Eastview had eight.

The second period was more exciting. To get back in the game, Turkowski scored and it was assisted by Melissa Jungles (Rocori). Ten seconds after Turkowski scored, Eastview made a goal past goalie, Vogt. The score at the end of the second period was Stars 1 and Eastview 2. The Stars ended up with six shots on goal and Eastview had three.

To start the third period, a penalty was called on Eastview for too many skaters were on the ice. Probably the best play of the game was when Turkowski scored her second goal to even up the game. Her goal was assisted by Courtney Karsch.

With about a minute left in the game, the Stars were playing more aggressive and getting more shots on goal but none went in. The final score for the third period was 2-2. Therefore, an eight minute overtime was scheduled.

In the overtime, no goals were scored and no penalties were called. The final score of the game was 2-2.
