River Lakes beats Shakopee in overtime

Senior forward Bari Behling scored in overtime to lift the River Lakes Stars girls' hockey team to a 3-2 victory over Shakopee on Saturday, giving the Stars their second victory of the year.

River Lakes opened the scoring in the first period, with sophomore defenseman Marie Omann scoring for the Stars. But Shakopee's Kara Ledel scored two times in the second period to take a 2-1 lead.

Eighth grader Kenzie Novak knotted the score with a third-period goal for the Stars, and Behling scored the game-winner in overtime, improving the Stars' record to 2-4 for the season.

The Stars outshot Shakopee 35-20. This week, the Stars will play at Willmar on Thursday and at Princeton on Saturday. Next week, they will host Sartell at the River Lakes Arena in Richmond on Tuesday, Dec. 16.

St. Cloud 8, River Lakes 2
The St. Cloud Icebreakers scored three first-period goals and beat the Stars 8-2 on Thursday in Richmond.

St. Cloud led 4-0 before the Stars scored in the second period, with ninth grade forward Amy Moschkau scoring for the Stars.

St. Cloud then scored four more goals, building an 8-1 lead, before River Lakes scored again in the third period. Ninth grade forward Tori Aretz scored for the Stars, assisted by junior forward Janile Lewis and by senior forward Bari Behling.

Senior goalie Trish Wendlandt made 22 saves for the Stars.
