Stars have rough start to season

The past week has been very busy for the River Lakes Stars, who had three games within four days, and lost all three. The opening game was against Sartell on Tuesday, Nov. 30, at the National Hockey Center in St. Cloud.

The game went along as any normal game would, the shots going both ways, and penalties on both sides. After one period, the score was: Sartell 1, Stars 0.

The second period was pretty good to the Stars, with goals scored by Brad Koltez and Chris Brinkman, both from Rocori. Sartell also had two goals that period. At the end of the second period, it was: Sartell 3, Stars 2.

There weren't many shots in the third period, and you could tell that both teams were wearing down. Sartell scored one goal, and the Stars couldn't answer back. At the end of the game, it was: Sartell 4, Stars 2.

The third game of the week took place on Saturday, Dec. 4, at Worthington.

In the first period, the Stars experienced bus lag, after their three hour bus ride, and let in three goals.

In the second period, the Stars took control and shut out Worthington while scoring a goal themselves.

In the third period, the Stars were distracted, and let Worthington score three more goals to make the final score 6-1. The Stars were outshot 33-11, with Hartfiel making 27 saves.

Coach Kevin Mooney had this to say about the Stars' performances in the past three games, "Once again the focus for this year is learning. We still have systems to run, but we have to improve a little more before we can do that."

The Stars played against Annandale/Maple Lake at River Lakes Arena yesterday. They play at Delano on Friday, and host Mora on Tuesday, Dec. 14 at the Paynesville Civic Arena.
