Stars settle for a 1-1 tie

By Crystal Songetay

The River Lakes Stars are on a roll. After beating Little Falls for their first win ten days ago, they came back on Tuesday, Nov. 23, and tied Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato 1-1 at the Koronis Civic Arena in Paynesville.

Danyel Piecek (7), a senior from Rocori, fights for the puck last week during the Stars' 1-1 tie.

The Stars, now 1-3-1, had the momentum on their side for most of the game, outplaying and outshooting the visitors in the first period and taking a 1-0 lead in the second period on a goal by senior Marya Losinki from St. John's Prep.

Unfortunately, with three minutes left in the game, Litchfield/ Dassel-Cokato got a goal from Carrie Ganser to tie the game 1-1. Neither team scored in overtime.

"The girls played exceptionally hard," said coach Kirby St. John after the game. "Again we had great goaltending by Crystal Songetay. We have seen steady improvement from the first five games of our season."

The Stars outshout L/D-C 31-23, with Songetay making 22 saves.

The Stars played at St. Cloud Apollo on Tuesday night. They will host Willmar on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the Koronis Civic Arena. They will also play at Sartell on Tuesday, Dec. 10.
