Gymnastics: Loses to improved Sauk Centre team

On Tuesday, Jan. 6, the Bulldog gymnasts returned to competition for their first meet after the winter break. Paynesville posted a season high team score, yet lost to an improved Sauk Centre team led by ninth grader Laura Blank, who placed second in the all- around at the state meet last year. The final score of the night was 132.05-117.10.

Paynesville began the night strong on bars, where they posted a season high total of 28.65.

Paynesville also had a season high score on floor of 30.75.

The beam was once again Paynesvilleís weak point. Spanier performed the only no-fall routine of the nigh.

In the all-around competition, Spanier in third place, Wegner in fifth place, and Hemmesch in sixth place.

Coach Diane Dutcher on the teamís performance, ďOverall, the team performed nicely, but they have some small details to clean up before the next meet.Ē
