By Jenny Habben

The Stars girlsŐ hockey team lost to the Willmar Cardinals on Tuesday, Nov. 20. The Cardinals took the lead four minutes into the game, scored four times in the first period, and won 8-0.

The loss was the StarsŐ second of the season after winning their opener. "This yearŐs team has a lot of new players and we are currently trying a number of different lineups in order to decipher where players fit in," said coach Tom Petroski.

Two players from Willmar -ĘIrene Zeug and Gretchen Dahl - had hat tricks by scoring three goals.

The Cardinals outshot the Stars 45-5. Goalie Crystal Songetay made 15 saves in the first period for the Stars. Trisha Wendlandt stopped 14 shots in the second period. Songetay and Wendlandt combined to make 37 saves for the Stars.

The Cardinals scored twice in both the second and third period on their way to a conference victory.

The Stars had two power plays but were unable to control the puck and could not score.

"Everyone worked hard," said senior Laurie Barten. "We just didnŐt play up to our ability."
